guide
Get a real taste of Britain and support rural economies
When it comes to holidaying at home, we are not a nation of
planners! Research carried out by the UK's leading holiday cottage
letting agency cottages4you, has found that only four per cent of
holidaymakers travelling within the UK will buy a guidebook for
their chosen destination, despite it being somewhere they have
never been before.
With more than 96 million domestic overnight trips taken in 2010*,
cottages4you is offering those taking a UK break the chance to plan
their perfect break, selecting the best places to eat, drink and
visit whilst away.
The 2011 Go Local guide is full of customer recommendations,
supporting the independent businesses which go above and beyond to
make holidays special. Now in its third year, the guide is even
easier to use, with new iVizit technology to help holidaymakers
search for pubs, cafes, restaurants and attractions and even
recommend their own hidden gems for others to enjoy.
With tourism worth £96.7bn to England´s economy, by choosing local
suppliers and businesses holidaymakers can help retain more than
two million jobs**. At the end of the summer, cottages4you will be
judging the most entrepreneurial businesses and rewarding them with
a local business grant to help develop the business.
Town End Farm Shop and Tea Rooms near Skipton, North Yorkshire,
received £1000 after winning the Best Local Cafe award in 2010.
Business owner Chris Hall said: "We were delighted to win the Go
Local award last year. The award was great recognition of all our
hard work and proved a valuable asset in promoting the cafe. The
grant we received has been a vital resource in developing our
business over the year, and we'd recommend getting involved in Go
Local 2011 to anyone who is passionate about supporting local
tourism."
Nick Rudge from cottages4you said: "Many of us holiday here in the
UK without a second thought and often miss some of the best places
to eat, drink or visit. The Go Local guide is the ultimate resource
for helping make the most of your break whilst ensuring you are
supporting the community.
"Our Go Local initiative has seen hundreds of businesses
recommended across the country and we hope the 2011 campaign is
just as successful in rewarding the people who really make our
holidays memorable."
